The Tools
James Lamar merges ancient and modern modalities of meditation, relaxation, and healing with his unique combination of instruments. The sound frequencies produced by singing bowls have been scientifically proven to slow the brain’s waves. This allows us to access Alpha and Theta states, also known as deeply meditative and relaxed states of consciousness. In these mental states of rest, our bodies' natural healing systems can be activated, promoting a more holistic approach to physical and emotional healing.
Himalayan Brass Bowls
The traditional Himalayan singing bowls that James uses were made in Nepal and are said to comprise the seven sacred metals of the Himalayan mountains. They are often referred to as Tibetan singing bowls. These bowls were used historically as a natural healing modality and a tool for meditation.
Clear Quartz Bowls
The set of clear quartz crystal singing bowls that are tuned to 432 Hz and resonate with each of the seven chakras (according to the Vedic philosophy). Clear quartz is said to promote harmony and balance and therefore, the sound vibrations from the crystal bowls are enhanced by the energy and frequency of the quartz itself. There is a crystal singing bowl for each of the seven chakras, which can help balance our energy centers through the science of vibrational entrainment.
Universal Symphonic Gong
James Lamar also utilizes a 24" universal symphonic gong, which is rich in complex overtones and sound frequencies. The intense vibrations of the gong can penetrate deeply into the subconscious mind, bringing to surface past traumas, while moving and releasing any stagnant energy. It is said that the vibrations of the gong can stimulate the nervous system, enhancing blood circulation and boosting vitality and wellbeing. The gong has been used in ancient cultures as a way to dispel negative energy and forces, but its effects are still being studied on a scientific level.

Spiritual, Physical & Emotional Well-Being
Sound Baths can have many effects on participants; some may experience different effects than others based on where they are at on their journey. Science has been able to prove some of the effects of sound baths, providing evidence to those who are initially skeptical.
According to a study in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine, participants experienced an increase in feelings of relaxation, a decrease of depressed mood and anxiety, and an increase in feelings of spiritual well-being following their singing bowl meditation. Another study in the American Journal of Health Promotion found that the sound vibrations of a Himalayan singing bowl decreased blood pressure and heart rate in participants more than silence alone.
Some of James Lamar's participants have expressed feelings of warmth, lightness, as well as soothing and nurturing energy. Some have experienced their traumas coming to surface for the sake of healing, where some leave feeling completely relaxed. Although science can show us what some of the benefits are, there is still so much to learn & it is encouraged for people to try it for themselves to see what it can do.

Suggested Events & Venues
In a world full of constant stimulation and stressors that negatively impact our overall well-being, sound baths are a great way to come back into balance within yourself to experience inner tranquility, practice stillness, and allow space for healing on a deep cellular level. Most sound baths occur at yoga studios or wellness centers, but the benefits of sound baths can be experienced anywhere at any time.
James Lamar hosts both public and private group sessions, as well as one-on-one sessions. He has offered sound baths at a local PRIDEfest, a groundbreaking ceremony for a new mental health facility (Geisinger & Acadia), birthday parties, corporate work meetings, women's retreats, and in collaboration with yoga instructors. James played his instruments during the death of his sister to ease her transition and is open to play for natural at-home births to welcome new life with sound & peace, as well as at rehabilitation centers for those in recovery.
Enjoy a sound bath for your next birthday party, bridal shower, corporate event, retreat… infuse any event or occasion with divinely soothing frequencies.
The Experience
What To Expect Before, During & After
Sound Baths are typically an hour long, but they can be experienced for any period of time. Participants are expected to bring something comfy to lay on for the duration of the sound bath, like a yoga mat or a blanket. The main goal is to be as relaxed as possible: wear loose clothing, bring a pillow and blanket, add an eye mask if that adds to your comfort. All of this enhances the relaxation benefits of the sound bath. Throughout the bath, various instruments are played to promote inner peace, meditation, emotional release and healing.
It is important to note that sound baths will be experienced differently by each person in attendance because we experience life through our own unique lens. Although there are benefits of relaxation and emotional release, a sound bath might not always be a beautiful ride. As these frequencies can assist in the removal of stagnant energy, they can also bring up certain traumas or painful memories that were never felt, processed, and/or validated. These intense emotions can get stuck in the body if they aren't felt; our feelings should be honored.
If anything uncomfortable arises in the mind, it could be the frequencies awakening stuck emotions in the body in need of release. It is recommended to fully feel and sit with any feelings of discomfort. If you don't have the tools to process any emotions that arise in the present moment, remember to return to your breathing. Sound baths are not considered a replacement for traditional therapy – any memories that may arise are encouraged to be discussed with another professional.
